You should definitely try Surinamese sandwiches and a Saoto soup. If you go home after your holiday or city trip without having eaten that, you will be laughed at! The go-to place for this is Warung Mini on the Witte de With – where every bite you take is made even better by the bustling street it’s located in. De Kade, on the lively West-Kruiskade, adds a touch of Asian and serves Chinese Surinamese dishes, mainly vegetarian and vegan. Ideal if you like a lot of vegetables, like me (the tjap tjoy there!). My neighbourhood has something to offer too! On the lively, culinary Deliplein in Katendrecht, the Deli Bird for Thai and RiceTables for Surinamese Javanese, shouldn’t be missed – oh so delicious! The owners are lovely, friendly entrepreneurs who put a lot of love into the dishes. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
