‘Jack Bean. As soon as you come out of Central Station, you will see it on the Kruisplein. Great fast food with no animal products. They have award-winning burgers, wraps and salads and use local ingredients such as Rotterzwam oyster mushrooms whenever possible. I have been vegetarian for 25 years and mostly vegan in recent years. I only miss cheese sometimes.
Laurentius is nice too. An organic neighbourhood bistro, where you can pull up a chair and eat whatever’s on offer that day. They often get their stuff from locals, I once brought them sorrel from the vegetable gardens behind my studio. I also think Bertmans is a great spot, with an organic menu. It’s good for takeaways too. At Spaghettata, you can eat good pizza straight from the oven. Bliss.’
